Rangers from Joshua Tree National Park were presented with national awards at a ceremony in Washington D.C. this week.
Recently named Joshua Tree National Park Superintendent Jane Rodgers received the Excellence in Wilderness Stewardship Award for her initiative to train multiple employees as Resource Advisors (READ) to help protect wilderness during major incidents like fires and for increasing awareness of wilderness boundaries within the park.
Rangers Johanna Lombard, Mat Stevens, Ian Ferris, and Jen Kolm received the Freeman Tilden Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the practice of interpretation and education by an NPS employee. These rangers’ work on an exhibit at the Joshua Tree National Park Visitor Center in Twentynine Palms titled “Universal Threads,” which was a collaboration with the park’s 15 traditionally associated Native American communities.
Z107.7 congratulates our rangers, and thanks them for helping make Joshua Tree National Park a world-class recreation destination.
