If you are looking to camp in Joshua Tree National Park, plan ahead and prepare. But if you don’t, Reporter Heather Clisby says the park is now accepting same-day reservations…
The Joshua Tree National Park has begun accepting same-day reservations at their reservation-only campgrounds; Jumbo Rocks, Indian Cove, Black Rock, Cottonwood, and Ryan. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made up to six months in advance on Recreation.gov. Campgrounds are full nearly every weekend from September-May and on weekdays during the spring and holiday season.
There are three first-come, first-served campgrounds; Belle, White Tank, and Hidden Valley. These are smaller campgrounds and are typically full by Friday afternoons. There are only 77 first-come, first-served campsites out of a total of 516 sites in the park. The earlier you arrive in the week, the better chance you will have to secure a site. If you find one of these campsites open, you may set up and pay at the entrance station.
