Joshua Tree National Park and the Joshua Tree National Park Association announced the selections for the 2014-2015 Artist-in-Residence Program. Four visual artists and a multimedia artist were invited to participate in the program’s seventh year of providing a unique residential opportunity to artists from around the nation. The 2014-2015 artists are Chuck Kimmerle (a photographer from Casper, WY); Emily Underwood (a painter from Carmel Valley, CA); Doug Shoemaker (a watercolorist from San Francisco, CA); Deanne Belinoff (a painter from Seattle, WA); and Sonja Hinrichsen (a sculptor/videographer from San Francisco, CA). Gail Panske (a visual artist from Oshkosh, WI) and Andrew Gottlieb (a writer from Irvine, CA) were selected as alternates. The park will provide accommodations for the artists-in-residence for two to four weeks so that they may create work in their chosen medium. A jury comprised of five local artists and a park staff member made their selections from a pool of 70 applicants.
