The Joshua Tree National Park Art Expo kicks off this weekend (November 6 and 7) with art market booths, art activities, music, food, and beverages. Hilary Sloane will share the details…
The Ninth Annual Art Expo weekend is Saturday, November 6, and Sunday, November 7. On the 6th, the awards reception will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the 29 Palms Art gallery featuring 61 artworks for sale, all inspired by Joshua Tree National Park and created by artists from the desert region and across California.
Also, on Saturday, November 6, an art market will feature artist booths and free art workshops on the patio, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Grilled hamburgers and hot dogs with a bag of chips will be available for $5 starting at 11:30. A wine and beer bar will open at 4 p.m.
Free hands-on art activities will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with all materials provided. Workshops include a build-your-own assemblage with artist Julia Briest of Desert Hot Springs, using natural desert seeds and found materials, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Your choice of building a mini-mandala or a desert owl on a stick. Suitable for all ages.
On Sunday, November 7, art market booths will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Artist Ed Keesling will lead a drawing and sketching hands-on workshop on the gallery patio from 10 a.m. to noon. Using art materials provided by the gallery, this activity is open to all ages but specially designed for young artists.
From 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Miri Hunter will provide an afternoon of music by Hunter and The Wickd on the gallery stage.
The juried exhibition will display from November 4 to 28 at the 29 Palms Art Gallery, 74055 Cottonwood Drive at the corner of National Park Drive in 29 Palms. Regular gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
Coinciding events include the annual Weed Show at the Old Schoolhouse Museum Nov. 6-7, an 80-year-old tradition located off National Park Drive down the street from the gallery. Admission is free.
