At the Art Queen stage there will be live music starting with Dead in the Desert from 6:45–7:30 p.m. drawing inspiration from the Grateful Dead and other classic rock covers as well as their own original material. Closing out the night is Madame Harlequin + The Feel-Abouts at 8:15, and between both bands at 7:30 p.m., Stone Levitation brings its “deep space heavy riff rock” to an outdoor performance in front of La Matadora Gallery, who are presenting the opening of their Deaf Art show from 6:00-9:00 p.m featuring all deaf artists curated by Collena Hake and Rowan O’Brian. We asked Wendy Gadzuk and Tony Buhagiar from Stone Levitation about the paradox of their loud volume and the American Sign Language interpreter that will accompany their performance:

“That was the whole premise, with Colleena being a deaf person, she wanted intentionally to have a heavy loud band play at this show that’s deaf art. That’s the name of the show,” said Gadzuk.

“We’re gonna try to make everybody leave deaf (laughter). But you know, I guess learning from Colleena, there’s degrees of deafness, of course. Some deaf people are able to receive the lower sound waves into their body and get sort of an idea of what’s happening musically and then sign language person there gives them something else to enjoy the show,” said Buhagiar.
