JOSHUA TREE WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER A VEHICLE CHASE INTO THE NATIONAL PARK

A Joshua Tree woman was arrested after she intentionally crashed her car into a Sheriff’s patrol car during a pursuit. Just after 10:30 p.m. Monday, deputies were called about a suspected drunk driver, later identified as Angela Harris, 43, who was swerving all over the road near Park Boulevard and Highway 62 in Joshua Tree. Deputies located Harris driving her 2009 Nissan southbound on Park Boulevard toward Joshua Tree National Park, and attempted a traffic stop. Harris failed to yield, however, and led deputies on an 8 1/2 -mile pursuit into the park. Deputies say that during the pursuit, Harris was driving recklessly, including into oncoming traffic several times. The pursuit ended when Harris avoided an attempted PIT maneuver by intentionally crashing into a deputy’s patrol car. The deputy was not injured, and Harris was taken into custody without further incident. Angela Harris was arrested for investigation of felony evading and assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, booked into the West Valley Detention Center with her bail set at $100,000.
