JOSHUA TREE WOMAN ACCUSED OF ASSAULT ON A PEACE OFFICER

A Joshua Tree woman who threw a drink on a Sheriff’s deputy was arrested Monday afternoon, along with her companion. According to a Sheriff’s report, the deputy stopped Gerald Shaw, 28, and Shelby Moses, 23, both of Joshua Tree near Hopi Trail and Santa Fe Trail about 4:30 p.m. After the deputy arrested Gerald Shaw for being in possession of cannabis and brass knuckles, and placing him in the back seat of the patrol car, the deputy determined Moses had active misdemeanor warrants for her arrest and attempted to arrest her as well. The report states that Moses told the deputy he could not arrest her and threw a slushy drink in his face, then fled westbound on foot. As the deputy chased her, she fell, but then kicked him in the leg as he approached. Shelby Moses was arrested on suspicion of assault on a police officer, and for her warrants. Gerald Shaw and Shelby Moses were booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with Shaw’s bail set at $50,000 and Moses’ bail set at $80,000.
