The Joshua Tree Shakespeare Guild has been tapped as resident theater company of an under-utilized facility in Joshua Tree. The 15,000 square-foot facility currently known as JTopia is being revitalized to house an amphitheatre and a 60-seat black box performance space, The Black Lotus Theater, located at 61872 Chollita Road in downtown Joshua Tree. Long-term plans for the facility include community meeting rooms, a commercial kitchen, a dining/cabaret hall and several residential artist lofts. Joshua Tree Shakespeare Guild’s President Eric Quander will serve as executive director and head of operations for the facility. The Guild is seeking volunteers to lend a hand during its clean-up/Q-up party Saturday, June 1, from noon to 6 p.m. The day will include cleaning various rooms on the grounds, moving and discarding furniture and laying mulch in the garden. Volunteers will be treated to a BBQ dinner, non-alcoholic beverages and live entertainment.
