After just two weeks, the fledgling Joshua Tree Shakespeare Guild has lost its home. The Guild, which was restoring the space known locally as Jtopia, the former Root’s Center View Lodge at 61850 Chollita Road, was told yesterday to vacate the premises. According to President Eric Quander, all operations regarding the Joshua Tree Shakespeare Guild and the Black Lotus Retreat at the space have been cancelled. Quander said he had moved his family onto the property assured he would have at least a year to make something happen. That all ended yesterday, he said, when he got a call from the property manager, informing him the property is being re-converted to a convalescent home and that he and his troupe must leave immediately. Quander said the situation is beyond his control, and he apologizes to everyone who gave their time and effort to help. He said he is not sure about the future of the Joshua Tree Shakespeare Guild, and must turn his attention to finding a safe place for his family.
