There are children in the Morongo Basin who don’t have shoes to wear to school. The Bike 4 Shoes ride on May 14 features three different rides, ranging from 30 kilometers to 90 kilometers, along with a 5K run or 5K walk, or a walk n’ roll. Registration forms are available at the Z107.7 studios in Joshua Tree and Desert Images in Yucca Valley., or by e-mail from [email protected]. Riders can also register the morning of the event. The rides start at 6:30 a.m. from Joshua Tree Elementary School on Sunburst Avenue in Joshua Tree. The cost for the bike ride is $60 per person, or $50 for military and seniors, with discounts given for families and groups up to five people. The cost for the 5K walk or run is $10 and $5 for seniors and kids under 12. For more information, call Jim Nutter at 760-366-2357.
The bike rides will start at 6:30 a.m.; the walk/run/walk n roll starts at 7:30 a.m. at the Joshua Tree Elementary School, 4950 Sunburst Avenue. Helmets are required for all riders, and underage children must be accompanied by a parent. Professional bike mechanics, emergency medical technicians, and sweep vehicles will be available.
