The Joshua Tree No Kill Shelter Board of Directors has announced that longtime animal advocate Wendy Jordan has been hired to oversee the organization as their new Executive Director.
Wendy started her career in veterinary medicine 19 years ago as a licensed Veterinary Technician and has worked in general practice, emergency care, urgent care, ICU, and oncology. She is also trained and specializes in Animal Nutrition and Eastern/naturopathic therapies.

According to a Press Release sent from the Board – the new Executive Director will be using her background in team and operations management to lead the Board of Directors’ efforts as the shelter upgrades and expands their facilities and services in 2025.. And they say she is passionate about supporting the community, and is wholly dedicated to advancing the Shelter through innovative programs, effective leadership, and a deep commitment to animal welfare and advocacy.
The non-profit also welcomed three new Directors to the Board: Lindsey Barnett, Sue Watson and Crystal Mason. The newly elected 2025 Board of Directors consists of:
- Jennifer Jungwirth and Glen Harris, Co-Presidents
- Donna Davies, Vice President
- Kathy Ashkins, Secretary
- Thomas Snell, Treasurer
- Gayle Anderson, Director
- Robyn Celia, Director
- Lee Joseph, Director
- Mimi Mitz, Director
- Sue Watson, Director
- Lindsey Barnett, Director
- Crystal Mason, Director
Co-President Glen Harris expressed his excitement for the new Executive Director, saying “he’s looking forward to this new era of the shelter’s growth and development.” He also shared that the first of the two new kennel buildings should be operational by Spring.
The Joshua Tree No-Kill Shelter was formerly known as the Morongo Basin Humane Society when it began in 1972 and officially opened 9 years later in 1981 after the community raised over $50,000 to pay for it. You can visit the shelter Wednesday through Saturday from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. at 4646 Sun View Avenue in Joshua Tree.
