Joshua Tree No-Kill Shelter installs first new kennel in ongoing expansion

The first phase of the Joshua Tree No Kill Shelter expansion is moving along, with the first of two dog kennels delivered and installed to the non-profit this past Wednesday, August 13th.

According to a press release from the shelter – the kennel will be used for quarantining new arrivals. The new modular quarantine shelter from Horizon Structures LLC was paid for by a donation from the Dmarlou Foundation, in memory of Dorothy and Martell Kaliski.

The expansion of the shelter broke ground in September of last year. The current shelter is over 50 years old and has been stretching the limits of the no-kill facility. A large main kennel building will be arriving next month, which was partially paid for by a donation from San Bernardino County Supervisor Dawn Rowe. Board of Directors Donna Davies says due to the generous donations from faithful supporters, the upgraded kennels will be paid in full.

In addition to the new kennels, Loescher Meachem Architects has been providing pro-bono work on behalf of the shelter, and the shelter is focused on raising funds for the second phase of their expansion which will be construction of the shelter’s new administration building, which will also serve as housing for cats and kittens.

You can visit the Joshua Tree No Kill Shelter at 4646 Sunview Avenue, right off Sunfair Road road just east of Joshua Tree.

They are open Wednesday through Saturday from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.
