JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK VOLUNTEER DAY TO FOCUS ON BOUNDARY TRAIL

Joshua Tree National Park is calling for some hearty souls to participate in its Volunteer Day and the deadline to register is coming up soon. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details …

Over-loved and under-staffed, Joshua Tree National Park is hoping locals will heed the call and donate their time and energy on the Volunteer Day, Saturday, October 23. At least 20 volunteers, ages 14 and over, are needed to accomplish the days’ task.

The Boundary Trail, a popular spot for hikers and horse riders, has severe brush overgrowth, which impedes navigation. Volunteers will cut and remove the extensive growth along the route, which is located near the Black Rock Campground main trail in Yucca Valley. Equipment such as shovels, saws and hoes will be provided by the park.

There will be two works shifts: Morning shift is from 8:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and the afternoon shift, from noon to 3:00 p.m. Volunteers should bring their own water and food.

Volunteers must register for a shift by Monday, October 11, by contacting Fran Calvert Rackleff.
