JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK HOSTING PUBLIC MEETING ON VISITATION AND CAPACITY

We have all been impacted by the lines of traffic blocking driveways, packed services, and parking problems caused by the unprecedented growth in visitation to Joshua Tree National Park. Now the Park wants to hear from you on solutions to some of those problems. Reporter Heather Clisby says a public meeting has been called for this Thursday at Copper Mountain College…

As locals well know, Joshua Tree National Park is experiencing a steady rise in visitations with a peak number of 2.9M tourists in 2018.

So, the Joshua Tree National Park staff is hosting a public meeting on the topic of visitation and capacity issues. The discussion will focus on increased park visits and how best to handle the influx of tourists given the current infrastructure. Park managers are hoping for a public dialogue to help mold future plans.

Joshua Tree Park Superintendent David Smith will welcome attendees who can visit five different info stations, each designed to accept written and verbal feedback.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, October 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Copper Mountain College Bell Center, 6156 Copper Mountain Road, in Joshua Tree.

Those who require assistive listening devices, large print, braille, a sign language interpreter, or real-time captioning, please contact the park accessibility coordinator at 760-367-5502, or at [email protected] , seven days prior to the meeting.
