JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK EXPO AWARDS

Jurors for the Joshua Tree Art Exposition looked at 310 art submissions from 121 regional and national artists before selecting 58 artworks to be included in the sixth annual show. Judges for the art show gave out $5,000 in cash awards during the award ceremony at the 29 Palms Art Gallery Saturday evening. With the winners, here’s Rebecca Havely…
First place in the Joshua Tree National Park Art Exposition and $1,500 in cash was awarded to Alane Levinsohn of Joshua Tree for her oil painting, “Dividing Line.”
Photographer Robert Miramontes of Desert Hot Springs received $1,250 and second place for his photo “Beautiful Moment.”
Third place and $1,000 was given to Kathy Kleinsteiber for her painting “The Great Escape 2—Greater Roadrunner.”
Park Superintendent David Smith regretted that he was unable to give a cash award but gave a goody bag and a certificate to Jeffrey Skelly for his painting “Stormy Desert.”
Honorable mentions, along with $250, were given to Chuck Caplinger, Terry Houseworth, Lezli Kussin, Karchi Perlman, and Travis Usher of Yucca Valley.
