Joshua Tree National Park is celebrating its birthday tomorrow, and you’re invited. Rebecca Havely tells you where you can get some birthday cake…
Joshua Tree National Park will celebrate its 82nd birthday Friday, August 10. That’s the day that the park was designated a national monument by President Franklin Roosevelt, thanks to the efforts of Minerva Hamilton Hoyt. President Bill Clinton signed the California Desert Protection Act 58 years later, bestowing national park status on Joshua Tree. To celebrate, the park will host a party with birthday cake and remarks by Park Superintendent David Smith. The festivities start at 10 a.m. Friday at the Park’s Oasis Visitor Center in Twentynine Palms. The event is free and open to the public.
