Joshua Tree National Park is celebrating its 83rd birthday tomorrow, and you’re invited. Reporter Andrew Dieleman tells you where you can celebrate the founding of our local National Park, and get some birthday cake…
Joshua Tree National Park will celebrate its 83rd birthday on Saturday, August 10. In 1936, the land was designated a national monument by President Franklin Roosevelt, thanks to the efforts of Minerva Hamilton Hoyt. President Bill Clinton signed the California Desert Protection Act 58 years later, bestowing national park status on Joshua Tree. To celebrate, the Park will host a birthday party with cake and remarks by Park staff. The festivities start at 10 a.m. at the Park’s Oasis Visitor Center, 74485 National Park Drive in Twentynine Palms. The event is free and open to the public.
