On December 6, 7, and 8, Twentynine Palms will host the first Joshua Tree National Park Art Show and Faire, at the Oasis of Mara. Festivities include a juried art show with an opening reception, awards, and a weekend art faire with artists’ booths, art demonstrations, cultural displays, park history presentations, youth art activities, live music, food and beverages. Fifty artists will compete for cash awards for their artwork inspired by Joshua Tree National Park. The art show opens at noon on Friday, Dec. 6, at the 29 Palms Art Gallery, with an opening reception set for 5 to 8 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7 and 8, there will be events and exhibits at Park Headquarters and Oasis Visitor Center, the 29 Palms Art Gallery, 29 Palms Inn, Old Schoolhouse Museum, and the 29 Palms Creative Center and Gallery, all within walking distance of each other. The art faire will start with a nature walk at 9 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday, followed by artists’ booths, demonstrations, music and activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
