Hundreds of people attended the opening reception for the fourth annual Joshua Tree National Park Art Exposition’s juried art show, held Saturday, September 17 at the 29 Palms Art Gallery. Out of 92 artist entries, 49 artists were juried into the exhibition, and four received special awards for their work. Jaymie Arquilevich of Ojai received $2,000 and first place for her fabric art, “A Meeting of Trees.” The second-place award and $1500 went to Frederick Fulmer of Joshua Tree for his work, “Desert Tracks.” Third place and $1000 went to Kim Zarney of Cleveland for her painting “Joshua Tree.” John Van Vliet of Joshua Tree won fourth place and $500 for his photo, “Critical Mass.” Sal Vasquez of Palmdale won the Superintendent’s Award. Honorable mentions went to Robert Fogel, Larry Percy, Karine Swenson, and Echo Westover. The artwork will be on display at the art gallery Wednesday through Sunday from 12 to 3 through October 2.
