JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK ART EXPO WINNERS

The Joshua Tree National Park Art Expo held its award ceremony Saturday at the Twentynine Palms Art Gallery. Out of 228 pieces of art submitted by 96 artists, 61 artworks were juried into the exhibition. Managing editor Tami Roleff joins us with the list of winners…

Not only did Robert Miramontes of Desert Hot Springs win the Superintendent’s Award for his photo “Primrose and Dune,” he also won first place in the photography division. Mitch Miller and Margie Trandem, of Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley, won second and third place in photography for their photos “Color Fuel” and “Snowstorm.” In the 3-dimensional art division, Ed Keesling of Yucca Valley won first place for his ceramic and wood bas relief sculpture, “29 Palms Founders.” Second and third place went to Angel LaCanfora of Torrance for “Sunset Explosion” and Ehrick Wright of Rancho Mirage for “Dancing Cholla.” Bart Baxter of Palm Desert won first place for his pencil drawing “Ozymandias;” Hannah Campbell of Yucca Valley won second place for her ink and pencil drawing “Light in the Storm,” and Kay Kaplan of San Diego won 3rd place for her oil painting “Desert Magic.” Best of Show was awarded to Marie Van Dorp-Skelly of Sunland for her oil painting “Peaceful Light.” The exhibition will run through November 29 at the 29 Palms Art Gallery.

“Dancing Cholla” by Ehrick Wright of Rancho Mirage, won third place, 3-dimensional art
“Desert Magic,” oil painting, by Kay Kaplan of San Diego, won third place in the 2-dimensional art.
Mitch Miller of Yucca Valley won second place in photography for “Color Fuel.”
