An upcoming art exhibition, “A Joshua Tree Love Story” illustrates the delicate romance between our iconic yucca plants and the pollinating moths that keep them around. Reporter Heather Clisby tells us more…
Joshua Tree National Park’s artist-in-residence, Dr. Juniper Harrower, has created a multi-media art exhibition that captures the symbiotic relationship between our beloved Joshua Trees and the pollinating moths and root fungi that help perpetuate them. Using abstract painting, masks, miniature props, and stop-motion animation to tell the story above and below ground, “A Joshua Tree Love Story” opened Friday, October 18, at the new Black Rock Art Gallery in Joshua Tree National Park. An ecologist as well as an artist, Harrower folded her observations and research to reveal this unique relationship between plant, fungi and insects that shapes our unique desert landscape. The exhibition also features examples from Harrower’s interactive project “HeyJtree”, a mock online dating site for Joshua Trees. The exhibition will remain up through January 2020. The Black Rock Art Gallery is located at 9800 Black Rock Canyon Road in Yucca Valley.
