A high school class ring from Missouri, that had been lost 47 years ago in Michigan, was found in Massachusetts, and is being returned to its owner in Joshua Tree. Managing editor Tami Roleff says that the former president of Copper Mountain College never thought he’d see his ring again…
Roger Wagner doesn’t remember the exact circumstances of how he lost his 1971 class ring, only when and where.
“I had lost that ring while I was in the Air Force stationed at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in 1972.”
Leo Pelletier, who was in the same unit at the same time, found it, put it away in a safe place, and then forgot about it.
“Leo came across the ring while he was cleaning out stuff in his garage.”
But Pelletier didn’t remember where or when he had found it until Wagner told him where he lost it.
“Then he realized he had been stationed at K.I. Sawyer at the same time.”
Pelletier contacted Wagner’s high school in Missouri with photos of the ring, and the school posted photos of it on Facebook and asked for help in finding the owner. Wagner’s sister, who works for his high school district, called him and told him his ring had been found.
“So it was great news that after 47 years that this class ring, that I’d only had less than a year before I lost it, had been found, and now it’s on my way back to me.”
And there’s an added bonus.
“And to top it all off, it was my birthday, so it was a heck of a good birthday present, too.”
JOSHUA TREE MAN REUNITED WITH HIS CLASS RING– 47 YEARS LATER
Roger Wagner of Joshua Tree lost this ring in 1972 at K.I. Sawyer AFB in Michigan. On January 7, he learned that a fellow airman, Leo Pelletier, of Massachusetts, had found the ring among Pelletier's belongings in his garage.
