JOSHUA TREE MAN HOSPITALIZED AND ARRESTED AFTER DUI ROLLOVER CRASH

A Joshua Tree man was hospitalized Tuesday after he rolled his pick-up truck while allegedly driving under the influence. According to the California Highway Patrol, William Porter, 26, was driving his 1972 Chevy truck northbound on Avalon Avenue about 4:40 Tuesday afternoon. Investigators say for unknown reasons, Porter braked hard and swerved to the left, sending his truck off the road into the desert west of Avalon where it rolled over, just north of Pimlico Street. Paramedics from County Fire Station 42 in Yucca Mesa responded and said Porter suffered minor injuries to his head and neck and he was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. The CHP expects to charge William Porter with driving under the influence; preliminary blood alcohol tests indicate William Porter had a blood alcohol content of .13; the legal limit is .08. Investigators do not believe Porter was wearing his seat belt, and paramedics remind residents to buckle up for safety.
