A Joshua Tree man was arrested early Tuesday morning, accused of drunk driving with his young children in the car. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Wilson, a woman in the 61700 block of Oleander in Joshua Tree called police shortly before 1 a.m. to report that her son, Joshua Steiger, 29, was causing problems. By the time deputies arrived, Steiger had fled in a car with his 12-year-old and 5-year-old sons. Deputies went to the home of Steiger’s grandfather in the 5100 block of Sunburst Avenue where they got a description of Steiger’s car. Shortly afterward, Steiger drove by in his car. Deputies attempted a pursuit, but Steiger refused to pull over and led them on a slow-speed chase through the neighborhood, before finally stopping at his grandfather’s home. As Steiger got out of his car, deputies subdued him, and he was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence, failure to yield, and child endangerment, because his two sons were in the car with him. Joshua Steiger was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $100,000.
