A Joshua Tree man, who was upset because he was asked to leave a business, was arrested Wednesday after he threatened the owner, her business, and assaulted the owners’ sons. According to a Sheriff’s report, Darren Claborn, 28, went to Mike’s Liquor store in downtown Joshua Tree at about 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. When the owner asked him to leave due to previous incidents at the store, Claborn allegedly began kicking the store’s door, punching the window, and picked up a concrete pillar outside the store and tried to hit store employees with it. The owner also told deputies that Claborn threatened to burn down the store. She said she feared for her life and called her two sons to be with her at the store. When the men arrived, the owner said Claborn pushed one and punched the other, and then picked up a rock and charged at the men trying to strike them. Claborn then left the store and went to his girlfriend’s home behind the store and kicked open the door. A physical altercation occurred there and Claborn fled again. Deputies located Claborn near Park Boulevard and Verbena Road in Joshua Tree at about midnight. Darren Claborn was arrested for investigation of assault, and on a drug-related warrant, and booked into the West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $100,000.
