JOSHUA TREE MAN ARRESTED AFTER 52-MILE PURSUIT; PATROL CAR RAMMED

A Joshua Tree man is in custody after ramming a Sheriff’s patrol car during a 52-mile pursuit. Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Smit said at about 4:44 p.m. Friday, May 29, deputies attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle driven by Raymond Williams, 47, in the 4500 block of Avenida La Mirada in Joshua Tree. Williams failed to yield and led deputies on a 52-mile pursuit through Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley. During the pursuit, Williams rammed a pursuing patrol vehicle with his vehicle in attempt to evade deputies. Deputies were able to take Williams into custody in the Lucerne Valley area after his vehicle was disabled and he ran from the scene; he left two simulated assault weapons inside the vehicle. Raymond Williams was booked into the High Desert Detention Center and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Morongo Basin Station at 760-366-4175.
