Joshua Tree man allegedly attacks landscaping crew with a sword, arrested for attempted murder

A Joshua Tree man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly slashing a landscaper with a sword.

On Friday (October 25) just before midnight, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a burglary at an apartment complex in the 62200 block of Verbena Road in Joshua Tree. Upon arriving, deputies discovered that the supposed burglars were a landscaping crew surveying the property in advance of a tree-trimming planned for the next day.

Deputies say that one of the residents of the apartment complex, identified as Paul Pinckard, 41, confronted the landscaping crew, and attacked one of them with a sword. The victim suffered from slash wounds and drove himself to Hi Desert Medical Center for treatment.

Paul Pinckard was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and drunk and disorderly conduct, and is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $1,000,000 bail.
