JOSHUA TREE MAN ACCUSED OF STABBING, BEATING HIS WIFE

A Joshua Tree man was arrested Monday night, accused of stabbing, beating, and threatening his wife. According to a Sheriff’s report, deputies were called to the 61900 block of Grand View Circle about 8:55 p.m. when a woman called to say she had been stabbed. The woman said her husband, Carlos Villaescusa, 33, had hit her multiple times, and tried to stab her in her upper torso, and told her she was going to die. The woman suffered a cut to her hand from the knife when she tried to defend herself. Villaescusa fled the scene before deputies arrived. A search by deputies, Sheriff’s helicopter, and search dogs failed to locate Villaescusa; however, he returned to his home a few hours later and was taken into custody about 2:15 a.m. Carlos Villaescusa was arrested for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon, spousal abuse, and making criminal threats, booked into West Valley Detention Center, with his bail set at $50,000.
