A Joshua Tree man, who once volunteered as a wrestling assistant for the Yucca Valley wrestling team, was arrested Thursday, accused of having sex with a minor. According to the Sheriff’s Department, detectives were notified on May 30 by Morongo Basin Sexual Assault Services about inappropriate behavior taking place between Jaime Correa, 27, of Joshua Tree and a Yucca Valley High School student. During the investigation, deputies learned that the unidentified student was 17 at the time that the relationship began.
Correa left the state for a short time and when he returned, he and the girl resumed their relationship, which continued until May. Jaime Correa was arrested about 2:30 p.m. Thursday for investigation of statutory rape and booked into the Morongo Basin Jail. Correa posted bail and was released just after 11 p.m. Thursday. Correa was a volunteer with the school who assisted with wrestling practices, but he has not been associated with the school since last year.
