JOSHUA TREE MAN ACCUSED OF FELONY EVADING, TRANSPORTING DRUGS

A Joshua Tree man was arrested following a pursuit through Joshua Tree Thursday night. About 11 p.m., a deputy attempted to stop the driver of a motorcycle who was driving without wearing a helmet and no operating lights. The driver, Steve Mixco, 32, failed to yield near Verbena Road and Sunset Avenue and led deputies on a pursuit through downtown Joshua Tree. Deputies say that Mixco abandoned the motorcycle and fled on foot into the open desert, but deputies captured him without incident after a short foot pursuit. Steve Mixco had an active warrant for $125,000 for his arrest for attempted kidnapping. Deputies also determined that Mixco was transporting a controlled substance at the time of his arrest. A search warrant was issued for Mixco’s home in the 62100 block of Verbena Road, where deputies found ammunition. As a convicted felon, he is prohibited from being in possession of firearms or ammunition. Steve Mixco was arrested on suspicion of felony evading, transporting a controlled substance, and on his warrants. Mixco was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $230,000.
