JOSHUA TREE GIRLS WINS BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB REGIONAL COMPETITION

Rebecca Arellano of Joshua Tree was named Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year at a regional competition held Saturday in Temecula. After winning Youth of the Year from the Boys and Girls Club of the Hi-Desert, 17-year-old Rebecca competed against students from the Coachella Valley, and the Inland Empire in the San Andreas Area Council. The Youth of the Year award recognizes good character and citizenship, academic success, and leading a healthy lifestyle. Rebecca, a student at Yucca Valley High School, has 953 hours of volunteer service with the Boys and Girls Club, volunteers as a tutor, and serves as a mentor. She received a $750 scholarship for winning the regional competition, and will travel to Sacramento in April to compete in the state competition.
