The Drug Court Program run by the Joshua Tree Superior Court will hold their formal graduation tonight. Managing Editor Tami Roleff says the program is changing lives and reuniting families…..
Drug courts are one of the country’s most successful programs in the criminal justice system. Low-level, non-violent drug offenders are given the option to participate in the 18-month program, in which they make regular court appearances in the Joshua Tree Superior Court before Judge Rodney Cortez, submit to regular drug testing, attend counseling sessions, self-help meetings, and get help with completing their education or finding a job. According to the National Association of Drug Court Professionals, every dollar invested in drug courts saves an estimated $27 in criminal justice costs. The Joshua Tree 19th annual drug court graduation ceremony will be held at 5:30 tonight in the Yucca Room of the Yucca Valley Community Center. For reservations, call 760-366-8641.
