Joshua Tree National Park provides essential habitat for hundreds of species of migrating, wintering, and breeding birds. Every year, birdwatchers go out to count the birds that live here or that are just merely passing through. Reporter Taylor Thacker explains how you can help count the birds…
Birdwatchers are needed to help with the Joshua Tree National Park Christmas Bird Count. On Sunday, December 28, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., people interested in birdwatching should meet at the Indian Cove Ranger Station or the West Entrance Station to Joshua Tree National Park for a fun filled day with our beautiful local birds. Previous birdwatching experience is desirable, but not essential. Christmas Count data is used in many scientific studies and constitutes the largest body of information about wintering bird populations anywhere in the world. Participants should bring lunch, water, binoculars, field guides, and warm clothing. For more information call 760-366-8913.
