If you like locally produced craft beers, this may be your lucky year. Reporter David Haldane has the story…
To most people, the vacant building on Sunset Road looks like, well, a vacant building. When Dario Guerra and five partners look at it, however, they see a whole lot more; the future site of the Joshua Tree Brewery teeming with enthusiastic beer buffs.
Like his partners, Guerra is an amateur home brewer with a day job, in his case as a civilian contractor at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms. Other partners include a doctor, bike shop owner, realtor and two active-duty Marines. What they share is the belief in a market for tasty locally-produced beers.
Bringing that to fruition, however, has proved somewhat daunting. After purchasing the property and investing in a water processing system, the partners find themselves a bit short of cash. So, they are seeking local investors and hoping to win a $15,000 small-business grant. If all goes well, Guerra says, look for the spigots to start flowing in March.
You can help get those beer mugs filled by voting for the Joshua Tree Brewery at https://championship.score.org/contest_entries/641499. So far, out of 421 entries, the brewery is number one in California and seventh overall; whoever gets the most votes wins the grant. Voting is allowed once every hour until February 14.
