JOSHUA TREE AND GALAPAGOS ISLAND ARE NOW SISTER NATIONAL PARKS

Joshua Tree National Park Superintendent David Smith will officially sign a Sister Park Agreement today between Joshua Tree National Park and Galapagos Islands National Park in Ecuador. National parks around the world are linked together by migrations by birds, butterflies, sea turtles, whales and other marine life, who travel between North and South America. Air pollution created in one country can cause environmental damage to parks in other countries, even thousands of miles away. These partnerships allow park officials to share information more easily and allow officials to address many of these issues. The Sister Park Agreement signing event will be at 10:30 at Black Rock Nature Center in Yucca Valley. Rangers will be on hand and will Skype with Ecuadorian school children in honor of the event. Also present will be three classes from Cahuilla Elementary School.
