Faced with a decision to give the controversial Alta Mira Housing development a will-serve letter for water service, the Joshua Basin Water Board dropped back and punted last night. Reporter Mike Lipsitz was there…
Following a presentation from proponents of the planned 248-unit Alta Mira residential housing project in their quest to secure a “will-serve letter,” directors of the Joshua Basin Water District heeded advice from legal counsel and tabled any action on the matter. The scale, timetable and density prompted District Legal Counsel Gil Granito to describe the project as a significant departure from District’s usual business; Granito reminded the board that their first duty is to serve water, not regulate land use. Also at last night’s regular meeting, the Board received an update on plans for addressing the state’s new chromium-6 regulations. General Manager Kurt Sauer offered a particularly dry look at the issue.
