In yesterday’s report on Wednesday’s meeting of the Joshua Basin Water District we highlighted the ongoing struggle for NextEra Energy to secure a Water Service Agreement from the District. It’s a hot topic that has garnered a lot of community focus. Today, we continue coverage of that meeting with a report on an issue that has received little public attention, but which has implications far greater than any solar project. Assignment Reporter Mike Lipsitz explains ….
At Wednesday night’s meeting of the Joshua Basin Water District, General Manager Curt Sauer held out the Urban Water Management Plan as a topic that merits as much, if not more, public attention as any NextEra solar project or Altamira-type gated community. The plan will guide the actions of the District in fulfilling its mission of providing safe water in the years ahead. It proposes procedures for rationing water during an earthquake or other emergency, and plans for dealing with last half century of overdrafting the aquafer. A draft of the Urban Water Management Plan is posted at JBWD.com. The district is expected to approve the final plan following a public hearing at the regular meeting June 1, but public input is most useful when received prior to the public hearing when changes may still be made to the plan.
