JOSHUA BASIN WATER HIRES A NEW GENERAL MANAGER

At Joshua Basin Water District’s Board meeting last night, a new general manager officially took the helm. Reporter Mike Lipsitz was there and files this report…

Like a nine-month-old taking first steps, directors at the Joshua Basin Water District last night didn’t exactly embrace new technology with ease and confidence. But within a few minutes, the district’s technology upgrade—in the form of an electronic agenda displayed on synced individual monitors affixed to the dais—the furrowed brows gave way to smiles.

And with that behind them, the board retreated to a closed session to discuss the particulars of a three-year contract making interim general manager Mark Ban the district’s new general manager.

Following the closed session the board awarded that contract to Ban and administered the oath of office. Ban will enjoy an annual salary of just over $175,000, plus health insurance, company car, and four weeks vacation. Ban has been acting general manager since last June and, by all accounts, brought a wealth of talent to the district. Among his responsibilities is management of the district’s far-reaching capital improvement program.
