It will be déjà vu all over again tonight as the Joshua Basin Water Board again faces a decision on a controversial commercial solar project. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has more…
At tonight’s meeting of the Joshua Basin Water District, General Manager Curt Sauer will again ask the board to consider providing a will-serve letter and water supply agreement to NextEra Solar for use at the proposed Joshua Tree airport solar project. The board has passed on providing such an agreement multiple times. Most recently this item was tabled pending the outcome of an appeal of the County Planning Commission’s approval of the project. Now the Board of Supervisors must rule on the appeal. May 24 is the earliest the supervisors could hear the case, so all bets are off as to whether this item is to be tabled once again, or whether the board will make a preemptive move. Tonight’s high drama starts at the new 6:30 p.m. meeting time at district offices on Chollita Road in Joshua Tree.
