Joshua Basin Water District will soon be drawing new district lines based on data from the 2020 census. Reporter Jef Harmatz joins us with details about the new district maps.
Because data from the 2020 census indicated that Joshua Tree’s permanent residential population has declined in the last decade, the community-owned district will be re-divided to accurately reflect the five-member board of executives. While the board members do not represent unique districts, each of the five districts must represent relatively equal populations, and so the district maps will be redrawn to reflect the population shifts. The board will receive a presentation on the new district maps, and hear public comments about the new district lines, at its March 16 meeting.
