At last night’s virtual meeting of the Joshua Basin Water District’s Board of Directors, interest was singularly focused on an updated presentation on the Joshua Tree Autocamp destined for the northeast corner of Sunburst Street and Highway 62. Project manager Sam White described the 26-acre development as an enhancement to downtown Joshua Tree with less than half, or just 12 acres being developed including a focus on desert native landscaping. The development will feature 55 custom airstream trailer accommodations each with a private deck, dining area and firepit, and shared use clubhouse, private meeting and event spaces, retail shop and food service area. Guests will have access to free wifi, bicycle use, and other low-impact offerings. A packaged wastewater treatment plant will operate on-site. The developer will widen Verbena Road. Construction will last nine or ten months with a projected October 2021 opening.
