JOSHUA BASIN WATER DISTRICT APPROVES TURTLE ISLAND AGREEMENT WITH CHAMBER

At last night’s meeting of the Joshua Basin Water District, the board approved an agreement with Joshua Tree Chamber of Commerce to give up to $100 of water each month for the Turtle Island garden. The water conservation and demonstration garden, now under renovation, is on the south side of the highway in downtown Joshua Tree. Funded by a County grant, the garden will feature drought-tolerant, native plants. Director Gary Wilson opposed the agreement. In other business, the board approved submitting a $250,000 grant proposal for a new well which will monitor the effects of replenishing the ground water soon to come from Northern California. Directors Coate and Wilson opposed the grant application. Thanks to Joshua Basin Water District General Manager Joe Guzzetta for his assistance with this report.
