Directors at the Joshua Basin Water
District last night passed a resolution on district-based voting and
received an update on a billing snafu that customer service has spent
the better part of a week trying to disentangle. Reporter Mike
Lipsitz brings us the details…
The move from at-large to
district-based elections comes in response to a demand letter from a
Los Angeles law firm threatening legal action should the district
fail to initiate the process. Cost to the district is estimated to
begin at around $60,000. Next there will be a series of public
hearings, the first of which has been set for March 6, and which will
begin to asses public sentiment about where district lines may be
drawn.
Also last night, the board received a report on a recent, system-wide billing blunder. The problem, which originated with a long-time contractor, saw billing statements sent everywhere except to the customers for whom they were intended. General Manager Curt Sauer assured the board that at no time in the mix-up was ratepayer’s private information compromised. New statements with extended due dates were mailed on Tuesday. Customers are urged to shred the botched bills.
