In Joshua Tree last night, directors at the Joshua Basin Water District voted on a major change to the Customer Account Assistance Program and two significant items at last night’s 6:30 p.m. meeting. Reporter Mike Lipsitz was there…
In a split vote the board approved significant changes to a program designed to provide assistance when a leak or other unusual event results in an unexpectedly high water bill. Spurred by increased use of the program by non-resident owners and higher, unrecoverable costs to the district, the amended program limits eligibility to resident owners and raises the qualifying threshold from $400 to $700. The change followed a recommendation by the Citizen’s Advisory Committee. Director Geary Hund opposed the increase; Vice President Bob Johnson was absent. In other business, the board approved an update to the district’s Organizational Implementation Plan, a move designed to enhance agency efficiency and effectiveness.
