JOSHUA BASIN WATER BOARD SETS SPENDING LIMIT, PLANS REMODEL

In Joshua Tree last night, the Joshua Basin Water District board met on the Zoom platform. Reporter Mike Lipsitz attended and offers this overview…

Directors adopted a resolution setting the 2020-2021 appropriation limit at $1.9 million; to its credit, the district’s actual tax revenue appropriations are about half the allowed limit. Directors also approved transfer of reserve funds to cover costs of expenditures not specifically funded by name in the annual budget.

And in an effort to meet the anticipated challenge of assuring a smooth succession following the upcoming retirement of Associate General Manager/Controller Susan Greer, the board approved job descriptions for two new positions: director of finance and accounting supervisor. Greer has been a 32-year constant at the district; her archival knowledge is without equal at the agency.

And lastly, the board approved plans for a remodel of the customer service and some back-office areas at the district office. That job will now go out to bid.

Attendees at last night’s meeting of the Joshua Basin Water District reviewed the proposed floorplan and a rendering of planned remodeling at the district office. Later, the board unanimously approved that floorplan and gave the green light to open the bid process.
