A notice of proposed rate increases will soon be in the mail for the 4,500 accounts served by the Joshua Basin Water District. That was one of the items decided on last night in Joshua Tree; our reporter Mike Lipsitz was there…
At last night’s meeting of the Joshua Basin Water District board, directors authorized release of a prop 218 notice of proposed district-wide, double-digit rate increases to be phased in over the next five years. According to the district, the substantial increases will in part make up for rates that have been kept too low for too long. The added revenue will finance essential capital improvement projects. Not yet a done deal, the next step in the process from the perspective of ratepayers is a public hearing tentatively set for February 21. Also last night, the board re-elected Mickey Luckman and Bob Johnson to continue for another year their service as board president and vice president respectively. Among other business, approved a 2.5 percent cost of living increase for affected union employees, and accepted the first fiscal quarter financial report.
