JOINING THE MARINE CORPS

If you’re interested in joining the Marine Corps after high school, there are requirements you need to know.  ROP broadcasting student Danielle Leon tells you what they are…

Many students in High School consider joining the military as an option. If you are looking to join the Marine Corps, you may be wondering what exactly it takes to earn the title. According to recruiter Sergeant Alex Babrea, the character traits you should have are: a sense of inner leadership, initiative, discipline to do what your responsibilities are, and poise. You may also be wondering what would benefit me if I joined. Sergeant Babrea explains that you will be able to do something no one else wanted to do; you accepted the challenge. Often people see the Marine Corps as the harder branch of them all and don’t want to join but you could be the one to have respect and honor to hold the title of a United States Marine. You must be morally qualified, physically qualified (meaning no medical problems), must meet the height/weight requirements, and you must have graduated in order to join. You must also score a 30 on the ASVAB, but the Marine Corps looks for the 50’s, and depending on your wanted MOS is what score you want to get. The Marine Corps offers a delayed entry program during high school that puts you in a structured atmosphere both physically and mentally before joining. However, you still have to join the program whether you decide to do it in high school or after you graduate.
