Johnson Valley Shared Use Area closed 8/14 – 8/25

The Johnson Valley Shared Use area will be closed for Marine training starting on Thursday, August 14 and lasting until Saturday, August 23. The adjacent Johnson Valley OHV recreation area will remain open during the training.

The 56,000 acre shared use area is primarily open throughout the year, save for a few weeks of live-fire training sessions and other combat center activities. The open-desert shared use area is approximately half of the Johnson Valley OHV area, which is maintained by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and is approximately 96,000 acres in total.

This is the last scheduled closure of the area until February of 2026. You can find a map of the area below, and you can also sign up for text alerts from the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center about the shared use area as well as learn more about it’s history and use on their website.
