JIM BAGLEY TO SPEAK ABOUT HIS PIONEERING FAMILY WEDNESDAY

Charles Lindbergh completed the first solo flight across the Atlantic; “The Jazz Singer” debuted in New York City ending the era of silent film; and a Ford autoworker made fifty cents an hour. It was 1927 and the Bagley family arrived in the Morongo Basin to begin a new life in the wilderness. Reporter Mike Lipsitz picks up the story from here…
Frank and Helen Bagley filed papers on a 160-acre homestead near the Oasis of Mara in present day Twentynine Palms in the spring of 1927. Helen went on to author an account of their experiences in her book, “Sand in My Shoe: Homestead Days in Twentynine Palms.” Fast forward three generations to meet local resident Jim Bagley as he shares the story of the hardships and successes of his family’s early homesteading experiences here. It’s all part of the Morongo Basin Historical Society’s Second Wednesday Lecture Series at the Hi-Desert Nature Museum in the Yucca Valley Community Center Complex. Join Bagley at 5:30 p.m. this Wednesday, October 10. Bagley will sign copies of his grandmother’s book following the lecture. Suggested admission is $5.
