Jeep and trailer fire closes Twentynine Palms Hwy. yesterday

A very visible auto fire closed all lanes of traffic on Twentynine Palms Highway yesterday.

The Morongo Valley Fire Department reports that they were dispatched to the scene of an auto fire at 8:38 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Twentynine Palms Highway near Highland Road.

A Jeep towing a trailer full of firewood was fully engulfed in flames when Morongo Valley fire crews arrived, joined by an engine from Yucca Valley and a medic from San Bernardino County fire.

The occupants of the vehicle escaped with no injuries, and were on the side of the road when fire crews arrived.

The fire was quickly extinguished which prevented a wildfire response or any other property damage other than the Jeep and trailer. By 9:15 a.m., traffic lanes were reopened.
